How to book an appointment

If you would like to be seen within the service then you will first need to see your GP about your skin problem and ask to be referred to us for further treatment or opinion.

If your GP feels that your skin problem is appropriate for the service then they will be able to provide us with a referral via fax, email or post. Once a referral letter is received we will then be able to book you an appointment for you to see a specialist at one of our community clinic locations.

Please be aware that:

  • This service is only available for patients registered at GP practices in NHS West Sussex, other specialist services are available for other counties.
  • The NHS will not pay for cosmetic treatments of skin lesions or problems.
  • We must have received a referral letter from your GP before we can offer you an appointment (even through Choose & Book).

Choose & Book Patients:

Some GP's may use a national IT system called Choose & Book to refer you to us. Choose & Book can either be used by your doctor to refer you directly into our service, or alternatively it can be used to give you a choice of several specialist dermatology providers in your local area.

If you have been referred by Choose & Book then you will need to call us with the unique booking reference and password that your doctor has provided for you. Please be aware however that we cannot act on your referral until we have received a full referral letter from your GP giving detailed reasons for your referral. For most patients, your doctor will usually dictate a referral letter on your behalf and then have the medical secretaries at your practice type-up your referral letter and send it to us by either attaching the referral letter onto Choose & Book, or by sending it directly via fax, email or post. This process usually takes a few days so you may be advised to give us a call back in a few days time to check again if we have received your referral letter and can book you an appointment.

Community Clinics

Once we have received your referral letter from your GP, we will send you a letter through the post detailing the exact time and location of your appointment. We always aim to book you into a community clinic that is closest to your home to minimize any travelling.

If the patient requires ambulance transport to their appointment then please call our Patient Helpline on 01903 703270 to arrange this as soon as they are notified of their appointment as some appointment times may not be suitable for transport.

Please feel free to give our admin team a call on 01903 703270 to discuss specific referrals or for more information about the service and our clinic locations.
