Safeguarding Children Information

Safeguarding children is about protecting children from maltreatment  such as abuse and neglect. A person may abuse or neglect a child by inflicting harm, or by failing to prevent harm. Children and young people may be abused in a family or in an institutional or community setting, by those known to them or, more rarely, by a stranger.

As a health service we have a statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, as set out in the Children Acts of 1989 and 2004. The Child Protection Lead for the service is Dr Fiona Emerson. Full contact details for our service and NHS Coastal West Sussex can be found in the following PDF documents:

Raising Workers Concerns / Re-validation Policies & Procedures

The service has a number of policies and procedures for SCDS staff to use internally.
