East Sussex Community Dermatology – Service Update

Sussex Community Dermatology Service (SCDS) has urgently commenced community dermatology services across East Sussex to support patients following the recent suspension of a GP-led community dermatology service in the area.

We are aware that, due to similarity in service names, there has been some confusion. We would like to clarify that the suspended service is not part of SCDS. We are a separate organisation, and our services remain fully operational and unaffected.

As part of the transfer of care from the GP-led service to SCDS, over the past week, we have begun receiving and prioritising:

• Patients under follow-up
• Patients on existing waiting lists
• New referrals from 7th April 2026 onwards

This includes both routine and urgent cases. We are prioritising patients who require urgent treatment or medication to minimise any disruption to care.

Our acute dermatology service in East Sussex remains fully operational, continuing to manage urgent suspected cancer (USC) patients and complex dermatology cases under our subcontracted agreement with East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (ESHT).

We will continue to provide updates on this page as services expand. Patients do not need to take any action unless contacted directly.

East Sussex Dermatology Service

With two convenient clinic locations across East Sussex, our service ensures that patients have easy access to high-quality care from some of the best Dermatologists in the field.

Our clinics are led by Consultant Dermatologists with specialised expertise in dermatological surgery and skin cancer management. Our dedicated team works together to provide comprehensive care tailored to individual patient needs.

Suspected skin cancer referrals are prioritised and seen urgently in dedicated clinics, always within a two-week timeframe. Should surgery be required, this can be arranged at one of our locations following a consultation. We also offer Plastic Surgery services locally, so patients don’t need to travel to other hospitals for their care.
